Job 40:15 The Behemoth

Job 40:15 “Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.”

Today, we look at the Creature Behemoth, which the Lord spoke to Job about. Our Lord spoke to Job about this, in order to remind Job that God is Mighty, and beyond compare. He mentions the Behemoth, and the Leviathan. We’ll look at Behemoth, because Leviathan is a bit complicated to explain. In my own OPINION, I believe that the Leviathan, was really a dragon. I honestly believe that dragons which breathed fire, or some sort of hot liquid (like the bombardier beetle today), existed, and the Leviathan was one of them. (I’m not talking about “mystical” dragons as movies and books may portray them, but dragons . . . that were real creatures . . . maybe dinosaurs that somehow had the ability to have an acidic, or extremely hot liquid, or actual fire, sprayed or blown from it’s mouth, as the bombardier beetle today can spray an extremely hot and combustible liquid from it’s abdomen . . . As for flying, I don’t believe it’s listed in the Leviathan’s description, so . . .) From the description, that’s what I come to believe (though some say it describes a crocodile, the description doesn’t fit that, and many can easily trap and kill a crocodile, whereas the Leviathan is described as stronger and mightier).

Yet getting to what is shown in today’s verse, The Behemoth, I believe, is more clear as to what it describes. I believe it is easier to understand, because creatures that are like the behemoth have been discovered and known. To help us understand Job, we must realize that Job is perhaps the oldest book in the Bible. Job, probably lived very close to creation, actually. Yet, Job must’ve lived after the flood, because it is described how people would try to catch animals and fish for food. Before the flood, animals were not eaten for food but the plants were made for that: Genesis 1:29-30 “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.” (Yes, even the terrible “T-Rex” was a plant-eater in the beginning. This is how we can understand why the “T-Rex’s” teeth had such shallow roots that the teeth would fall out if it tried to eat something as tough as flesh, yet not plants . . . people believe the “T-Rex” ate meat, because it has sharp teeth and the type of teeth it has, yet it is not remembered that the Spider-monkey today has ferocious looking sharp teeth . . . yet eats fruit, or the Australian Fox bat which has sharp teeth, yet shallow roots, and feeds on fruit.) However, after Noah’s Flood, God then allowed animals to be eaten as food, as we understand from Genesis 9:2-3 “And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.” So Job must have lived close after the flood. The Flood also occurred not long after Creation though. I recently made a short “Time Chart” from the Bible and realized that Adam died only about 786 years before the flood, which was less than the average lifespan of someone during that time. So Job, was still fairly close to remembrance of Adam, and Creation, which explains why there are so many references to Creation, throughout the book of Job.

God created the dinosaurs, and He created them not millions of years before man, but on the Sixth Day, as He created all land animals. Behemoth, is often taught that it is a Hippopotamus. Yet that conflicts with the understanding that the Hippo, when compared with many other creatures, is not that mighty. God was reminding Job of Mighty Creatures which man can hardly fight and contend with, so that Job would remember that God who Created such a creature, is much stronger and mightier than that creature! If we look at some descriptions of the Behemoth, we see also, that the tail is likened to a Cedar Tree! Hippos, have tiny tails, that definitely do not move like a cedar tree.

Some of the descriptions of the Behemoth, are: the animal eats grass like an ox (Verse 15), it’s legs are a source of it’s strength (verse 16), Tail is moved about like a cedar (Verse 17), Bones are strong and likened to brass and iron (Verse 18), it Lies under shady trees (Verse 21), drinks lots of water, and is strong enough that his nose can pierce through the snares that are in the rivers to catch fish (Verses 23-24).

This honestly describes a dinosaur, that lived close to the waters, yet was friendly enough to “play” with beasts of the field, ate plants, and yet was the “chief of the ways of God” Now, I know many teach an Old Earth, and Billions of years, and so forth. Yet the Word of God shows otherwise, and shows that all Creation was within a literal week, and this includes dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are mentioned in the Word of God, despite how the world loves to portray the Word of God as being nearly completely contrary to Science. I spent many years researching and studying the sides of Evolution and Creation, and realized how the Word of God is very much in line with REAL science, and that Evolution is supported by blind faith (whereas Biblical Faith is not blind, God instead wants us to have faith, not blindly, but even to the point where we can give a reason for our faith, to those without the Faith) and many scientists will admit that Evolution is accepted much by faith and not really facts. Yet the Biblical Account of Creation, is supported by many, many facts. I’d get into that, and could list pages of facts that do such a thing, yet I shouldn’t have to, and the study isn’t about that . . . at least not today’s study.

All in all, this mention of the Behemoth reminds us of how the God of Creation, the one who Created the dinosaurs even, and the mightiest creature we know today, is so much mightier and greater than that Creature. We also must not get confused, or misunderstand, what the behemoth is/was, because so many will try to use things like this, to actually discredit the Word of God in certain ways. Let’s not be confused by certain parts of the Word of God, but let us be led by the Spirit in understanding, As God is not the author of confusion, but gives wisdom to whomever asks faithfully. Praise God for His Word of Truth!

I love you, and do pray for you faithfully, each day. May our Lord guide us in all we do, especially giving us wisdom and understanding according to His Word, so that we may stand strong, and be not ashamed as we walk according to His Word, in this wicked world. May God Bless you greatly, and may we bless Him in return, with our lives lived for Him. Have a wondrous day today!

Love in Christ, Always,
Your friend forever,
And brother,
Chris/Michael
