Numbers 11:1 “And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.”
Yesterday we were exhorted to pray, most especially because as we are woken up from spiritually sleeping and we start to move for the Lord, doing His Work, Satan will bring against us just about anything and everything he possibly can. Today, let us remember that fact, that the body of Christ will continue to endure persecution and troubles, at an increasing rate.
In knowing that though, we have to remember something else that is very important: complaining. When we find ourselves in the midst of troubles, we may have the tendency to complain. However, we most certainly should not complain. I’m reminded of the time I’ve mentioned before, of how when I first started living for Christ and began suffering fierce attacks and rejection from family, to the point that I asked for death each day and night. After a while though, the Lord gave me a dream, in which He showed me (as I mentioned in past studies) Himself. He simply showed me Himself, clothed in His Glory, sitting on the Throne. In that, He told me that no matter how many troubles come to me, and what I go through, I’ve been given the greatest blessing and privilege ever able to be received: Himself, though His Son Jesus! I had been complaining of how horrible the troubles were, but when that happened, He reminded me that because of what I’ve been given in Salvation, I really didn’t have any reason to complain! As the very truthful saying goes, “I’m too blessed to be stressed!” We have to remember, that any day where we can wake up, and have the ability to give Praise to God (with our mouths, lives, hearts, spirit, or anything at all), it is a very good day! Even the worst days of our lives, are good days, simply because of the fact that we who are in Christ, have eternal life and we have access to God the Father, through the Son! We are very blessed!
Though, this is one of the things many may find, “easier said than done!” But it shouldn’t be! We have to focus our attention on the Solution to the problems (Jesus our Lord), instead of the problems themselves! Many times, the devil knows he cannot get us to deny the Lord, so he will attack us, just to make us complain and make us forget the abundance of blessings we have . . . including the strength and authority over the devil to tell him to get lost!
In today’s verse, we are shown something incredibly important. The Lord, does NOT like it when we complain! Many have the thinking that it is perfectly fine to complain, just as many believe it is perfectly fine to have impure thoughts as long as they don’t act out the thoughts. In truth though, it is NOT okay to complain. The parent who gives to his or her child all things needed and even what is wanted, as well as so much more, does not find it pleasing to hear the child suddenly wine and complain over something that is so small in comparison to all the things that were given to the child! That honestly shows a Spoiled Brat! If you gave so much for a person, and loved a person so much that you have done all that you were able to do that is best for him or her, and then the person turns around and complains because you didn’t do or give them something as small as a piece of gum . . . would you be happy? Or would you honestly be hurt by the complaining, because the person shows they don’t care about what you have done for them, but just what you can continue to give to them? In the same way, do we believe God hears complaints, and is very well pleased indeed?
Today, we look at how the children of Israel complained, and the Lord’s anger was kindled against them and those in the uttermost parts of the camp were destroyed. Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 10:5-11, which is speaking of the Israelites in the wilderness: “But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after the evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” Now, the Lord is much more patient with us when we complain, to the extent that He will not call fire down from heaven and strike us dead. Yet it doesn’t mean He says that complaining is okay to do! The Lord is also very patient with us when we sin, yet that does not mean He “OKs” that sin we do! It simply means that He is patient enough, to wait for us to realize our wrong, and turn back to Him.
Some may actually say in this, “Well that’s easy for you to say, You didn’t go through what I’ve gone through!” Well, I’ve gone through much trouble also, ranging from simple rejection, to death threats and attempts at my life. I may not have gone through what you have, but that ultimately does not matter. To push aside the Truth of the Word of God, because of circumstances we may have gone through, should not be done!
There have been many times in the past when I would complain to the Lord our God. Many times also, it would be over ridiculous things! I could be going through much trouble, and then I would have a hard time finding my keys . . . and then I would start complaining and asking God “Why are you letting this happen?” Such small things honestly tend to make us complain the most (at least I find that true for me) because often when the large storms come, we know to turn to the Lord for His Help! But, whether small or large, we really should not complain at all! We are a People who have been given life, freedom, Salvation! We are DAILY covered by the Blessings of the Lord! If you don’t feel as though you are blessed, and you feel that you do have reason to complain, just start to seriously think about what it would be like, if God did not let you receive Salvation, or any of His Blessings!
The children of Israel complained so often. They complained when they thought there was a dead end at the Red Sea, even though they saw the power of God to set them free from Egypt. They complained because they didn’t have variety in their food, all the while God Himself provided food for them, manna from Heaven, each and every day and to the point that the most work they had to do, was go out and gather it from the ground! If God didn’t set them free, they would have continued to be persecuted in Egypt, probably to the point of death for all of them. If God didn’t provide manna, they would have starved.
It’s fine to acknowledge troubles when they come, we aren’t called to be in denial. The thing is, though, we should just glance at the troubles long enough for us to know they are there, and then continue walking on with our eyes on the Son! If we stare at the troubles, they tend to grow worse in our own eyes. Yet if we keep our eyes on the Lord and remind ourselves how blessed we are, then when the Devil attacks us and we don’t let that attack affect us but we keep walking, it puts fear in the devil because already we are a fierce enemy to him, through Christ, but when we don’t let his attacks take our attention or strength away, and we keep walking with our eyes on the Lord . . . we become an enemy he cannot stop!
Let’s make it a habit to say things like, “I’m too blessed to be stressed” and in the midst of troubles let us Praise God as Paul and Silas did in Prison and the chains fell! Let us, in the midst of hardships, give THANKS to the Lord for what He has blessed us with! Praise God Almighty, we are indeed blessed beyond comparison!
I love you dearly and continue to keep you in my prayers. Please keep all of our brothers and sisters in Christ in your own prayers daily as well! May God continue to bless you greatly, and I pray you have a very blessed and wonderful day today!
Love in Christ, Always,
Your friend forever,
Psalm 68:19 “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah”
